How to: Ace your Interview at Tech Companies

Let’s cut to the chase — here’s our guide on how you can amp up your interview game, and hopefully, nail your interview with Grab:

Step 1: Pre-Game Prep

Invest a bit of time. Take some time to find out about Grab before you come to meet us. Apart from showing us your curiosity, it’s a chance for you to demonstrate your passion for what we do and any attributes that align with our values.

Understand our values. Forward Together. Our values of integrity, intellectual courage, teamwork and commitment are really important to us; they’re the heart of our business. If you identify with them, and share our dedication towards our mission and vision, we’d love to know why and how.

Imagine working with us. We mean this quite literally – imagine yourself working with the people who are interviewing you. More often than not, the people sitting in front of you will be a good reflection of the teams you’ll be working with. If you can picture yourself working with your interviewers, you’re in the right place.

Step 2: It’s Game Time

Show passion. If you’re passionate about building a better future, we want to know about it. You don’t have to be held back by protocol. We’re looking for your energy and excitement, and whether you care about our industry or not.

Give real examples. Try to share actual examples of how you’ve approached and achieved things. We want to hear what you’ve done or would do in a particular situation — not what might be the right thing, how your previous company worked or some hypothetical theory. We’re interested in authenticity.

Culture fit. We’re big on culture at Grab. Hard skills are important, but so is heart. We want to make sure your heart is in the right place, and you’re here to join us in our mission to move the region forward. There’s no room for ‘I’ in Grab, we’re a team and as we like to say, “Your Problem is My Problem.

Step 3: Post-Game Stretch

Question us. Ask informed and intelligent questions about your role and Grab as a company. Demonstrate that you have done research on our new products, services, business models and growth strategies, and ask how it relates to your position.

Do a check-in. Make a stronger impression by sending an email back to your interviewers or recruiter to thank them. You can also take the chance to ask if there’s anything more they’d require from you to aid them in their process. Remember, it never hurts to be polite and proactive.

At the end of the day, what we really want to see is your authentic self. Grab has always championed the notion of out-serving our customers, and putting them first. More than just hard skills, we believe strongly in working with a purpose.

We hope that you’ll be able to take away some tips from us, and with a bit of luck, we’ll see you here soon.
